The person who decorated my nephew’s baptism cake must have wanted to wish him extra blessings. As a good godmother, I ate the frosting apostrophe to avert a grammar catastrophe.

Their/They’re/Thier

I saw this sign at Cardinal Bar in Madison, Wisconsin. It looked like a nice employee tried correcting the sign, then someone else tried correcting it again, only to both be incorrect.

I realize this isn’t so much a problem with the apostrophe, but of the incorrect use and spelling of the word “their.”

I saw this at the famed Ruby’s General Store near Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. In addition to the hilarious spelling of “potato,” every sign in the deli (actually, in the entire store) abused apostrophes in the most egregious way. I’m sure other tourists were wondering why I was taking so many photos inside a general store!
